Welcome to the Hot List! A monthly column from fashion sourcer extraordinaire Gab Waller. As a professional personal shopper to some of the best-dressed girls—she gets about 100 requests a day to track down hard-to-find wares!—Waller spends her days sourcing the most in-demand fashion and accessories. Each month, and exclusively for Vogue, she’ll deliver a cheat sheet of all the pieces she recommends you scoop up before it’s too late and the most dreaded three words in online shopping (“out of stock”) appear. “This is a world in which I live and breathe,” Waller says. “I get to be a ‘fashion detective’ day in and day out, and I have eyes and ears all over the globe.” Let the fashion snooping begin!

We’re past the halfway mark of summer, and I see a certain shift in my sourcing requests. My Instagram DM’s go from “Gab, can you please find me this bag for my summer vacation?” to “Gab, what should I be purchasing now for fall?” Although we’re not yet ready to wave summer goodbye, I’ve learnt the hard way that, even if we may not be in a rush to secure them, fall pieces can sell out quicker than the temperature changes.

With that said, I like to be one step ahead and always recommend jumping on our fall pieces now, especially when they’re bound to sell out. Take Khaite’s Marfa boot, which I’ve predicted to be THE boot of the season ahead. We’ve also got Magda Butrym’s new denim pieces that are already hitting ‘low in stock’, Miu Miu’s black dress that was recently spotted on Gigi Hadid (which resulted in an influx of sourcing requests), and wait until you see the all-new Franco slide by The Row. The perfect cherry on top? A Valentino bra top in red—the color that we will be seeing in many, if not all, fall collections ahead.

Below, you will find this month’s top 24 pieces, which includes many highly requested styles. If you see those two dreaded words—“sold out”—no stress, that is what I’m here for. As they say, just ask Gab.

The Row’s now iconic banana bag continues to reign supreme in my sourcing requests, so you can imagine my excitement when I spotted the beige colorway now available in nylon.

Your fall wardrobe isn’t complete without a puffer jacket, and, for the season ahead, I’ve got my eyes set firmly on the Acne Studios technical jacket in white. With a high neckline for added warmth and side slit pockets, this is the perfect everyday cooler-month staple.

Magda Butrym and “low in stock” go hand in hand with each new collection drop, and I can see this all-new denim blazer switching to “sold out” any moment now. With its oversized silhouette and cotton denim material, I consider this the ultimate day-to-night transition piece.

For a slightly more elevated look, the denim coat version of the jacket may entice you even more. Having recently purchased this piece myself, the moment I put it on, I knew that it would be my fall staple. It presents as chic, with a dash of elegant, and a strong dose of edgy.

Red will be the prevalent color throughout many (if not all!) fall collections, and this bra top from Valentino immediately caught my attention for this month’s list. The styling possibilities are endless, and I can personally envision an oversized leather jacket styled over it.

A Miu Miu dress that Gigi Hadid was recently spotted wearing, which immediately resulted in an influx of requests. Another piece I personally own, I styled mine with Alaïa fishnet ballet flats, but I loved even more the way Gigi wore it with socks and chunky loafers.

I’m making the call now—this will be THE slide for the fall season. If this slide is anything like the teddy bear slide that The Row released a few years ago now (an immediate flashback to the sourcing requests that rolled in for those throughout 2020), then I strongly recommend selecting that preorder button now. Better yet, it has been produced in three different colorways. Am I crazy to want and need all three?

Logo tanks remain a popular item filtering into my DM’s, and for this season, it is Saint Laurent’s jersey tank top that has come in as my number one most requested. Slightly sheer, with a subtle centered logo, this piece won’t only be on heavy rotation for fall, but for many summer seasons ahead.

Every season, Totême produces what I would consider the dream jacket that very quickly becomes a highly trending piece spotted globally. This season, my forecast is on their army leather jacket, in both the brown and black. Those cargo pockets are instantly recognizable, in addition to being extremely practical.

My focus has been on the Totême T-Lock Clutch Bag for some time now as one to watch. The sourcing requests have continued to increase, and it remains a recurring sold-out style. Featuring a detachable and adjustable leather shoulder strap, and a concealed gold-tone logo stamp, I can see why this is a favorite style for clients globally.

Raffia is certainly not going anywhere, and the Gucci Jackie 1961 raffia shoulder bag is proof of that. It was one of my most requested styles from the past week, and who says we can’t wear raffia all year round? With the ongoing rise in pink, this particular colorway is a must-have.

“What pieces should I invest in?” is a common question filtering into my Instagram DM’s on a daily basis (right before I’m asked if I can source them!). With the rise of timeless style, this question certainly comes at no surprise. When I consider investment dressing, my mind immediately goes to cost per wear—the metric used to determine the real cost of your item based on how many times you’ve worn it. I invest in pieces that I know I will receive a high cost-per-wear return on. In short, I want an endless return (wear) on that item. Will you be wearing these items three years from now? Absolutely, yes! Better yet, you will be wearing them far beyond that. They have no end date. They will never go out of style.

When looking at investment dressing, we can allow our minds to ponder. We can look toward The Row’s highest caliber of quality remaining at the forefront of their designs (insert: their Kitan scuba coat below). We can envision Khaite’s perfect satin minidress being styled in an endless amount of different ways. We can admire Totême’s unique twist on an everyday basic top. We can appreciate celebrity favorite Mimchik’s design philosophy of every single leather jacket being hand-distressed, as seen here on Lori Harvey.

Below, you will find my key pieces to invest in for the season ahead. They come from designers that continue to sit high in my most-requested folder (and continue to sell out just as quickly), and will continue to sit high in rotation for your daily uniform for many years to come, making them the perfect investment piece.

Hunza G answers one of our most difficult questions when shopping online: What size am I?. With every single piece being one-size-fits-all, they couldn’t have made it easier for us. The colorways introduced in their latest collaboration with Rose Inc are truly an investment wardrobe dream.

For the start of summer, the items I’m eyeing share one thing in common: texture. In accessories, it means raffia and woven details. If each summer, a single raffia handbag rises to the top as the buzziest of them all—fashion’s equivalent to the summer anthem!—this summer, it’s Saint Laurent’s Le 5 à 7 in a mini shoulder bag in a woven raffia textile. Loro Piana, meanwhile, is also delivering a crochet and black leather bag that epitomizes “quiet luxury goes to the beach.” Fashion-wise, textures appears in knitwear. A particular ribbed pink cardigan with a ruffled hem was just snapped in a selfie from Hailey Bieber, and you can guarantee I will be tracking it for several clients. Plus, it comes in a matching dress designed to be worn underneath! Draped goddess-like gowns from Magda Butrym and Christopher Esber are the ideal summer night’s dress, with the sourcing requests already starting to roll in. The number one bag on my shopping list? Courtesy of one of my most requested brands right now, Alaïa’s smooth-leather, heart-shaped Le Coeur bag—an accessory with as much edge as sweetness.
